How to judge GST billing software
Six things that decide whether a tool fits, independent of which one you pick.
Cloud or desktop
Desktop software keeps data on one machine, which is fine until you need to raise an invoice from a client’s office or hand the books to your CA. Cloud tools trade that for a dependency on connectivity. Decide which failure you would rather live with.
How much accounting you actually need
Invoicing and receivables — bills out, payments in, reminders, GST returns data — is a much smaller job than full double-entry accounting with ledgers and journals. Tools built for the larger job cost more in learning time whether or not you use the depth.
Compliance coverage, not just invoice templates
Check the automatic CGST/SGST/IGST split, e-invoice (IRN), e-way bills, and credit and debit notes. A tool that produces a good-looking invoice but leaves compliance to you has moved the work rather than removed it.
How the invoice actually reaches your customer
In India that usually means WhatsApp, and getting paid usually means a UPI or payment link in the message. Email-only delivery adds a step for every invoice you send.
The shape of the cost
A one-time licence is capital spend with optional paid upgrades; a subscription spreads the cost and includes hosting, updates and support. Neither is cheaper in the abstract — it depends on which you would rather budget for.
Who else needs access
Your accountant, your staff, possibly a second location. Per-user access and clean data export matter more than they seem to on day one.
When ईnvocify is the wrong choice
A comparison that never argues against itself is not worth reading. Three cases where you should pick something else:
- You need full double-entry accounting — ledgers, journals and statutory books your accountant works in daily. ईnvocify covers invoicing and receivables well, and is not a replacement for an accounting suite.
- You want software with no ongoing cost. There is no free tier; the trial runs 7 days and then it is a subscription.
- You work entirely offline. It is a cloud product, so it needs connectivity to sync.

- Are these comparisons biased?
- We build one of the products, so treat them as informed rather than neutral. What we can promise is that they are factual: where another tool does something better, the comparison says so, and there is a list on this page of cases where ईnvocify is the wrong choice.
- Is there a free plan?
- No. There is a 7-day free trial with full access and no credit card required, and after that it is a paid subscription. We would rather say that plainly than advertise a free tier that turns out to be a trial.
- Can ईnvocify replace my accountant’s software?
- Usually not, and it is not meant to. It handles invoicing, payments, reminders and the data your GST returns need. Many customers keep their CA in the loop and export at filing time.
- Does it work on mobile?
- Yes — web, iOS and Android, on the same account. The mobile apps focus on core invoicing; some administrative and CA-facing tools are web-only.
